What Oil Filter Does A Onan Quiet Diesel 12.5kw Generator Use

Topic: Must I use Onan brand oil and filter on generator?
Posted By: tpcollins on 08/16/10 09:30am At Camping Globe, the Onan 122-0800 oil filter was $17, and the Onan 15W-40W oil was $7 a quart making it most $45 plus tax to change the oil in my NHE propane generator.

The cross reference oil filter is a Fram PH3614. They run around $4-$5 and a another $10 for a gallon of expert quality oil which would run about $15 out the door.

Anyone go this road or do I need to use Onan specific items? Cheers.

Posted By: The Texan on 08/sixteen/x 09:44am I use NAPA filters in my Onan generator, along with Rotella-T synthetic oil. IMHO, do non use a fram filter in anything, as information technology is a very poor, tier 2/3 filter. NAPA is fabricated by Wix, so either would be a skilful filter.

Posted Past: zmotorsports on 08/16/10 09:46am You practise non need to run Onan brand oil/filter. I take run WIX/Napa Gold for many years and have had great luck. Just make sure to get the correct cross referenced filter.

Equally far as the oil just make certain to use a skilful quality oil with the same rating that is recommended past Onan in their manual. A practiced idea is to apply the same oil equally in the omnibus engine every bit long as the nomenclature is the same or higher. This way yous practice non accept to carry multiple brands/weights of oils. This is not always feasable depending on chassis engine/generator engine design configuration. Mike.

I like to store the motorhome with fresh oil in the engine and generator and so I alter before wintertime storage.

Very adept, Thanks! I was thinking that would be my approach too.
Posted Past: 427435 on 08/16/10 12:12pm Naught wrong with Fram filters. I've used them for years without any problems. Now that they come in several price ranges, I don't purchase the cheapest one. I utilise the Tough Guard version with the silicone anti-drain back valve and better filter media.

I utilise Mobil 1 5w-forty diesel oil in my genset. This oil is also rated for gas engines and has a much college level of zinc in it and so many oils (expert for bearings and camshafts).

The last I heard, their Fram Tough Guard filter was suppose to test excellent. One of the better filters on the market place!

Posted By: lryrob9301 on 08/16/10 02:21pm You can buy the OEM filter online at www.cumminsonanstore.com for about $8 and use whatsoever good course of 10W30 or 10W40 oil and your generator will practice just fine. Mine has over 200 hours and runs perfectly.

Posted By: Dutch_12078 on 08/17/10 07:34am I prefer using Onan filters, but I only pay $seven.50 for the oil filters for my vii KW Marquis NHM at Forrest Generator Services. For oil, I use the same Mobil 1 High Mileage formula that I use in the double-decker engine.

Posted By: Tarheel 2 on 08/17/x 08:54am I quit using Onan filters after I had my oil inverse at an FMCA rally by the Cummins tech. Adjacent forenoon it wouldn't run. Had to leave and go to their facility. I was convinced it was a bad filter, but they wouldn't admit it or alter it. After a week at that place and taking my generator out twice for replacement parts, I finally convinced them to change the filter. Presto, it started running and ran for three years until I traded it recently. Thankfully the work was done nether warranty, but I ended up with a couple rebuilt parts in a relatively new generator. I have used NAPA earlier and every since.

Posted Past: OLDROADDOG on 08/17/10 09:08am I used the Onan filter because I couldnt find a cross refrence, and user castrol 10w30 oil.
